Grade 12 Graduation
“True Grad” Policy:
The La Loche Community School gives to its’ Graduates the most important item of all: a Grade 12 Diploma. To earn this diploma, and be part of the Graduating Class, all potential graduates must meet the criteria set out by Saskatchewan Education, Northern Lights School Division and La Loche Community School. This means that each graduate must have earned 8 credits at the 10 level, 8 at the 20 level, 5 at the 30 level and then certain electives to total a minimum of 24 credits. It is the purpose of your “Three Year Planning Guide” to help you (and your parents) understand where you stand on this credit policy. See the Guidance Counsellor if you do not clearly understand.
In the past, we have had Graduation ceremonies where only 30% of the participants actually achieved Grade 12 standing. For this reason, the La Loche Community School and the Local School Board raised the standards for participation in the graduation ceremony. Therefore, to help ensure that our students meet the minimum requirements to graduate, the La Loche Community School has adopted the following “True Grad” policy: All Grade 12 students must pass their required classes in the first semester and then maintain a passing grade in each of their required classes in the second semester. School Administration will review (three times) each potential Graduates performance and (in consultation with class teachers) decide who will be allowed to attend the Graduation Ceremony. Reviews will be done after the first semester marks are received, after the second semester mid-term and as soon as possible after the final exams of the second semester.
Anyone who misses a required final exam, is known to be failing, or has not completed a required class will not get the ceremony! This is not negotiable.
This policy has ensured that we have had 100% of our Graduates receive their official Grade 12 standing from Saskatchewan Learning since it was implemented.

Local Scholarships
In an effort to promote academic achievement and provide some financial aid for students after they leave high school, we have initiated a Grade 12 scholarship program. A copy of the tentative application form is posted on the Grad Bulletin Board and will be given out to all potential graduates. The scholarships are for achievements in a variety of areas. It is very important that graduates fill out the applications to the best of their ability. Only students who have submitted applications will be considered for the local scholarships!

Fundraising:
The La Loche Community School gives the graduating class of each year some leeway when deciding how the ceremony will be run. All Grads must wear their Cap and Gown at the ceremony, this is not an option. Previous grads have usually chosen to go all out with decorations, invitations, flowers, many guests, dances, photographer, keep sakes etc… You can do this too, if you are willing to fundraise for it! To run to grad ceremony like those in the past is not cheap and requires the extensive help of each graduate. To make it fair for all the grads we will be expecting each Grad to raise a certain amount of money. If that amount is not raised before the ceremony, the Grad will be required to pay it themselves or go without many of the fundraised items (extra guests, flowers, glassware, photographer, etc…) So, if your class is running a fundraising event, it would be in your best interest to participate as all funds raised at an event will be credited evenly to those who worked it! Fundraising events are to be planned to run outside of school hours unless Admin. permission has been given.
The Grad ceremony is a school sponsored activity, therefore, the following criteria must be followed: All fundraising events need to be approved by administration and all funds have to be kept in the grad account at the Northern Store. Also, funds raised are for the Graduation Ceremony of this year and cannot be carried over to future years. Therefore, any funds raised by someone who doesn’t participate in the ceremony will go to help the grads that are participating. Any funds that they paid out of their own pocket will be refunded.
Fundraising/Meetings:
Staff Advisor: Ms. Morin
Ideas and fundraising events will be discussed at Grad Meetings. Please check the Grad Bulletin Board outside the main office for information on up-coming grad events and listen to announcements. Meetings are usually the 1st Tuesday of every month.
Graduation 2008 will be held on June 27th. in the Dene Building. There have been many fund raising activities held this year to raise funds.
