STUDENT OF THE MONTH, RESPECT and ATTENDANCE AWARDS
The Respect Award Program rewards students for respectful behaviour in the classroom, on the playground, or on the way to and from school. Students are nominated by any staff member for behaviour that is “above and beyond” the expected norms for their grade level. They may also be nominated for consistently displaying the virtue of the month.
Each month, the whole school works on a virtue, such as “patience”, selected from a book called, The Virtues Project . This program carries over into the daily lives of the students and supports our goal of teaching students self-discipline and responsibility for their behaviour at all times. Students receive certificates at the monthly assembly and are eligible to win prizes each month and at the end of the year.
Students who are respectful throughout the whole year are nominated for a special award at the end of the year, known as the PURR Award (People Understanding Real Respect). All staff members must agree that the students who are nominated are worthy of the award.
Each classroom teacher develops, with their students, guidelines for selecting a “Student of the Month”. They receive certificates at the monthly assembly and their names are entered into the draws for additional prizes each month and at the end of the year. They may also earn special privileges in their classrooms.
Students who have perfect or almost perfect attendance for the whole school year receive certificates at the year-end assembly.
Academic Honour Roll
Again this year, students can earn either a gold or silver standing at each reporting period. Students who maintain this all year will be recognized at the year end assembly with a special award.
